ACWA Power Global Services Ltd

Within the framework of investment agreement with the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, ACWA Power is developing three Solar PV plants and interconnection facilities in Uzbekistan. The scope of work has been divided into two projects each covering followings:

  • Samarkand (Sazagan) Solar I project: 
    • 400 MW and 100 MW Solar PV Plants in Samarkand Region
    • 334 MW Nurabad BESS with a 220 kV underground cable in Samarkand Region
    • 220 kV 70 km OHTL in Samarkand Region
    • 220 kV 4.9 km OHTL in Samarkand Region
  • Samarkand (Sazagan) Solar II project: 
    • 500 MW Solar PV Plant in Samarkand region
    • 500/220 kV Nurabad substation in Samarkand Region
    • 334 MW Karakul BESS with a 220 kV underground cable in Bukhara Region
    • 500 kV 350 km OHTL in Samarkand, Jizzakh, Syrdarya and Tashkent Regions
    • 220 kV 70 km OHTL in Samarkand Region

Under this assignment, Juru has been hired as E&S consultant to provide local support for environmental and social impact assessment on national regulator and lenders’ requirements for the projects and delivered services as described below.

Services provided

  • Carry out environmental baseline surveys including noise monitoring, continuous air and noise monitoring, soil contamination analysis, surface/ground water analysis, traffic count survey;
  • Perform biodiversity surveys including seasonal mammal, reptile, botanical and habitat surveys; Asian Houbara survey, Great Bustard survey, raptor nest search survey, VP bird monitoring, bat roost search and bat acoustic surveys; Central Asian tortoise release site identification survey; provide support in CH/PBF screening;
  • Support the lead Consultant in socio-economic surveys for ESIA and LALRP, including the following activities
    • stakeholder engagement
    • socio-economic household surveys
    • FGD and KIIs,
    • GRM support,
    • identification of PAPs (project affected persons) and land use survey
    • socio-economic survey of PAPs
    • asset inventory and valuation survey
    • disclosure of compensation packages to PAPs
  • Prepare 9 National EIA reports to obtain local environmental permit from authorities
  • Organise public consultations, disclosure meetings for the ESIA and national EIA
  • Support the lead Consultant in the submission of ESIA to Lenders and addressing Lender’s comments
  • Conduct environmental and social red-flag surveys
